PORT OF AUCKLAND LDV eT60 Electric Lines Truck

Sparky the all electric tug boat was recently added to the Port of Auckland fleet to decarbonize one of New Zealand’s largest ports.

CoolBox worked with the LDV all electric eT60 Ute and Port of Auckland to produce a solution to replace older diesel burning lines trucks. A first in the world.

Lines trucks reduce the back breaking strain of manually hauling up the super thick and heavy mooring lines. A thin rope with weight attached, is thrown from the ship to the shore crew and wrapped around the Capstan.
Through a series of leg operated hydraulic valves, the capstan rotates and drags up the heavy mooring lines out of the water, to connect over the bollards on the wharf. All through the power of electricity.

Makes the process so much easier and safer for all. The ships then winch the mooring lines tight to hold in position.

Cool Box provides motor bodies and transport solutions for now and the future.

(before you ask why exhaust pipes are showing on the Tugboat... there’s an onboard diesel generator for emergency breakdowns, but not used for general operations to date)
